F no Meikyuu by Akira Hagio

“Even in a world full of noise, if you listen carefully, you´ll be able to hear your favorite music.”

(page 49, translated by Crimson Flower)

Remi lives with her older brother and distant relative Sora since childhood. Sora used to be unfriendly rebellious child who appeared to have an issue with trust. We never learn what unabled him to live with his own family nor what exactly caused him to behave like this. We can only assume it was because of his mysterious ability. He is able to vividly see thoughts of people through touch. The one who helped him to open was Remi, young innocent child at the time. As such she became special existence in his life.

When she learned about his ability, she decided to be always honest but since uncertain time thoughts she couldn’t let him know piled. Now Remi is a high school student (as well as Sora but he looks more like young detective).

Remi’s brother work as private detective and as such he is pretty useless in Remi’s eyes. No wonder since he is forward enough to openly depend on Sora’s assistance when needed. It’s no different this time around when the brother accepts old case – disappearance of 14 years old girl who disruptively resemble Remi. Who is behind it?

First of all, the art was pleasing to the eyes and not something I had to get used to. Secondly, the story itself would make me continue to read even if the art would not be to my liking. It combines 3 genres I love: romance, mystery, supernatural. Just great! It’s told from Remi’s point of view, who is enough likeable character to not make you frustrated. But the most interesting of them all is Sora. I think I would digest an actual book where we would preferably see the story unfold also from views of others, get into more details about cases and prove that brother is in reality not so useless.

The mystery is pretty straightforward as we learn quite early who is the culprit, but not at all boring. We are given bits and pieces of informations related to case throughout the manga to not forget important part of the story. To sum it up, I found all elements blended together beautifully and created harmonious piece not overpowered by any of the three main “ingredients”.
