I gritted my teeth. Not wanting to waste time, I directly opened my mouth and spoke: “Could you help me to find where is Deng Long now?”
“Martin?” He was slightly taken aback. His voice was deep and low, “Can I ask why?”
I was silent for a moment. Not wanting to beat around the bush, I replied, “He took my boyfriend away……”
He was silent.
I added oil and vinegar1, exasperating tragic effect. I pretended to be sobbing, “Deng Long took him away. I couldn’t find him. Big brother, you must help me. We, fallen woman, don’t have it easy. After all the trouble to find myself a good man who serves as a timeless bread ticket2, I don’t want any accident to happen to him ~~~”
I sniffed exaggeratedly. I reckon when he heard it he would consider me, the fallen woman who has humbled herself for love and wanted to rescue her boyfriend from the claws of a gay, as a very helpless and pitiful woman.
I have pretended for so long, yet he spoke only now, “Why should I help you?”
When I heard it, I almost wanted to curse. He continued speaking, “Miss Fang, I have no obligation to help you find your boyfriend. This sounds a little ridiculous. Should I take it as you are trying to find a cheap excuse to hit on me? Sorry, but it’s not like there’s not such possibility.”
I froze for a split second. Suddenly, an earth-shattering fury engulfed my mind. I wanted to open my mouth and curse, but my sanity abruptly jumped out at this time and reminded me that my top priority wasn’t to quarrel with this delusional man. If he became angry with me, Dongzi’s chrysanthemum will with a high possibility blossom along with dripping blood.
I can’t let anything happen to Dongzi.
I still remember that time, when old Tan escorted the bashfully smiling Dongzi before me. As soon as I saw the big boy with that daughter-in-law appearance, I became amused. I draped my hand over his shoulders and said heroically: “Rest assured. Senior sister will cover you in the future.”
I have always remembered this promise.
From a distant past, an elder has once benevolently looked at me. With meaningful and heartfelt words, he taught me: “Liangliang, A promise is worth of thousand gold. One would rather others fail him than turn his back on others.”
I painfuly gritted my teeth and clenched the phone. I took a deep breath and swallowed my rage. Afterwards, I used an unusually calm voice to speak, “Don’t worry. I still understand the principle that a grass chicken doesn’t match with a rich husband. What about doing it like this. Consider my pitiful life an help me find where Deng Long is. I will never again bother you in the future.”
There was a silence for a few seconds on that side. Subsequently, he said, “Wait for me for a few minutes.”
Afterwards, he hung up.
I resentfully glanced at the number on my phone. I made a pei sound3. Bored to death, I turned my head and swept a glance at the public square that was as bright as a daytime. After that, my line of sight was fixed on the nearby doorway of Shayu shop.
Fu Chen was standing there like a rooted wooden pole, intently looking my way. Weiyi tugged at him. He reluctantly moved away his glance. He was expressionlessly pulled away.
Watching those two walking side by side, I only sneered. Apparently, he has really found a true love. In the past, when we were bickering, he liked to hold my hand and walk in the front, from time to time turning his head to reprimand me to display his mightiness and dominancy. There was no room for me to act shamelessly.
Looking at Wei Yi in distance who was walking in the front and holding the hand that had once covered my ice-cold hands and blew a warm breath on them in deep winter, seemingly strictly but actually distressedly reprimanding me, it made my heart pound hard.
My carelessness resulted in him holding hands with someone else.
The huge public square was packed with coming and going couples. My heart was slightly engulfed by sadness.
As I felt sad for less than a minute, the phone on my hand rang once again. It was Kang Zi Xian.
He directly said, “Where are you?”
Perplexed, I asked in reply, “Where is Deng Long?”
“He is at the place where you can’t get in. So where are you?”
“It’s not important where I am. Where the hell is he?”
“The Rush, private club. You can’t get in unless you are the member. So where are you?”
“Why?”
“Fang Liang Liang, if you don’t want me to take you there, you can hang the phone now.”
He was slightly angry. I was stumped for words. I then meekly replied, “Dong Bai public square.”
The evening breeze was cold. I was dressed lightly. A large skin on my chest was exposed to the air. When a gust of wind blowed, it caused the hairs on my body stick up. I made a ‘atchoo’. I sneezed. But currently I was unable to take care of myself. I threw him a fierce reply, “Don’t you fail me, otherwise, even if I became a ghost I won’t let you off.”
“Fifteen minutes.” With a bang, he hung up.
The next thing to do was to wait. I still called Dongzi over and over again, hoping he would pick up and ensure myself he was alright. Yet, over and over again, I heard a female voice that indicated his phone was turned off.
When I sighed at the gloomy night sky, a car stopped by my side. I turned my head to take a look. Fu Chen was sitting inside the car, looking at me coldly. Wei Yi, who was sitting on the front passenger seat, closed her eyes with a long face. Even from miles away one could see it.
When I was small, I was entrusted to her family for three years. It could be said that I have tasted what it was like to live relying on someone else’s charity. My maternal uncle often went on to the business trips. He also suffered a lot from that sharp-tongued aunt of mine. Wei Yi is like her mum. She can’t stand other people being better than her, being more outstanding than her. It’s just like her name4. She wants to be the only outstanding person out there.
This temper of hers was destined to be completely incompatible with mine. Those three years, I have suffered a lot from that pair of mother and daughter. Yet, I could only endure silently. Looking for other ways to release my pent up feelings.
Those three years did not slip by quickly. They have witnessed me going astray and the unruliness in my adolescence. When everyone thought that it wasn’t possible to salvage me, a pair of benevolent eyes smilingly looked at me and said, “The obstinate rock5 has blinded people’s eyes. Liang Liang, brush away the dust from your body. Show to everybody that you are a gold.”
Those pair of trusting eyes were my redemption.
So, when I became an adult and thought that Fu Chen could also have that kind of trust and become my redemption, I didn’t expect that what he would give me would be just a disappointment.
Fu Chen looked at me steadily. The way he spoke was as polite as usual, yet regarding me as a stranger, “Where are you going? Do you need a lift?”
I didn’t feel like watching those two. Looking at the front, I coldly spoke, “There’s no need.”
Fu Chen remained silent. At this time Wei Yi chuckled and butted in, “Elder cousin, hop in. It’s quite cold being dressed like this on such a freezing day.”
Grewing up, this was what I hated the most about my cousin. Hiding a knife behind her words which made her look even more sinister.
You have already won. What more do you want from Laoniang? Can’t you let me off?
I was unhappy. Very unhappy. As a result, I turned my head and frivolously smiled at the two. „Recently, I change my profession to a hostess. If I don’t dress like this, there would be no business.”
Fu Chen’s face suddenly turned gloomy. I then began lightly whistling. I waved and shouted at a young man who passed by in the front, “Hey, handsome! Am I pretty?”
The young man froze for a moment. Afterwards, he quite calmly gave me a thumbs-up. Subsequently, he went away with a smile.
I smiled even more brilliantly, like a peach blossom. My heart was filled with a pleasure from the revenge.
