Nil No Koi Mahoujin (“Nil’s Magic Circle of Love”) by Ikemi Runa

What attracted me to this manga were lovely coloured pages as well as genre that never fails to make me curious about its content.

As title suggests, this manga is romantic fantasy oneshot covering 40 pages.

The story is set in Academy of magic. Our heroine is 11 years old Nil Gillis, student of this school. She is quite nerdy girl and total bookworm (just look at the mountain of books on the first page!). She has her own principles and doesn’t hesitate helping others even though it can bring her into problems. Saying this, I hate all that: I’m your upperclassman, you shall obey me and don’t defy me, brat! attitude. But thanks to idiots like that, she is able to meet Kowloon Leo (16) who appears out of thin air (more specifically his clenched fist).

Kowloon is known around the school as brutal deliquent and rather than him really being some bully, his reputation was more or less work of his sharp eyes scarying even our heroine. Right at the moment when Kowloon resignedly accepts that she will run away even though he saved her, Nil surprises him by her calm analytic thinking that was basically saying: The only thing scary about you is your face. Here’s a medicine. And, thus, friendship beetwen two is born.

Of course, what romance would it be if their relationship ended developing here? It isn’t long since Nil fall in love with Leo. There is a moment when Nil is seriously looking at the poster of upcoming Dance party and Leo suddenly appears behind her making her hilariously panic. Nil is no selfconfident about her looks, thinking herself to be freckled flat chested nerd (true but she’s adorable!). To gain courage to invite Kowloon to Dance party she does what she is best at. Dig herself into a pile of books…. to magically change herself into adult form. Will this help her to achieve her goal?

Read Manga

(There is not a reader so you will need to download it first)

When I first read it few years ago, I loved it unconditionally. Now I think there are some things commonly seen in other manga. Such as Kowloon appearing like a hero or him having a rebellious look and being misunderstood. However, it still mantained this fresh air and uniqueness. Nil wasn’t screaming in her head: Save me! Anyone! She was prepared to somehow deal with a problem herself.
Both of them had similiarities through which they connected. Both were unpopular and lonely, craving someone’s presence in their life. Luckily, they found each other. I also loved this adorable little nerdy heroine.
I usually do’t feel like this but I wanted this story to continue a bit more. The last picture was too tempting for me, making me want to see gradual progress in their relationship when they aged a little bit.
